Page 1 of 2 The new year and new semester began unlike any other. Sigma Tau Xi was negotiating with the University and Phi Delta Theta. On February 14, 1993, and under the presidency of Brother Sandoval, Sigma Tau Xi voted unanimously to petition Phi Delta Theta for colony status. Having previously met with the University’s Greek Review Board and granted permission to "go national," Sigma Tau Xi was ready and determined to be a Phi Delt Colony. All the paperwork was completed and now the fraternity waited for a response.

Page 1 of 2 Under the direction of President Vander Linden, Brother Sandoval was asked to investigate the possibilities of "going national." Sandoval, an ardent proponent of the move, already had some fraternities in mind, and asked speech professor and Greek supporter Robert Rivera for advice.

Page 1 of 2 The Fall of 1991 saw the initiation of Matt Hawkesworth, Erik Larson, Mario Olmos, Eric Paulsen, and Nathan Quintana on December 13 as the Gamma class. The initiation took place in Lake Isabella, CA.

Page 1 of 2 The first rush held was in the Fall of 1990. The new fraternity faced many challenges being a new local fraternity. Rush would test their perseverance. Six men were initiated as the Alpha class on November 17, 1990. The Founders decided to bequest them Alpha class as a way to honor them as the Fraternity's first pledges.

Page 1 of 2 On April 14, 1990, a third meeting was called. This was the decisive meeting were the men would pledge their allegiance to the new fraternity and to each other. This date was reserved as the founding day of Sigma Tau Xi fraternity, with only 16 men still interested.
